Coaching is a process that is designed to assist individuals in making changes to further their professional development. Working with a coach can give an employee the edge needed to improve their work skills, discover their strengths, and achieve organizational goals through peak performance.
Coaching in organization and leadership settings is an invaluable tool for developing people across a wide range of needs. The benefits of coaching are many:
– 80% of people who receive coaching report increased self-confidence, and over 70% benefit from improved work performance, relationships, and more effective communication skills.
– 86% of companies report that they recouped their investment on coaching and more (source: ICF 2009).
Other studies have recorded the following improvements in companies that provided Coaching to Staff:
– 53% improvement in Productivity
– 48% improvement in Quality
– 48% improvement in Organizational strength
– 39% improvement in Customer service
– Customer complaints reduced by 34%
– Costs reduced by 23%
– Bottom-line profitability improved by 22%
– Working relationships with direct reports improved by 77%
– Working relationships with immediate supervisors improved by 71%
– Teamwork improved by 67%
– Working relationships with peers improved by 63%
– Job satisfaction improved by 61%
– Conflicts reduced by 52%
– Organizational commitment improved by 44%
– Working relationships with clients improved by 37%
Coaching provides an invaluable space for personal and professional development. For example, managers are frequently presented with employees struggling with low confidence. The traditional approach would be to send them to an assertiveness course and hope this addresses the issue. In the short-term, the employee learns new strategies for communicating which may improve confidence. Unfortunately, in isolation these courses rarely produce a sustained increase in confidence. Although external behavior may change; it needs to be supported by changes in their internal thought processes. This is often where coaching is most effective.
Human Resource (HR) Managers should not underestimate the impact of coaching on their people as it frequently creates a fundamental shift in the approach to their work. For example, increased self-confidence enables employees to bring more of themselves into the workplace. This results in employees being more resilient and assertive.
With the quality of results and the amazing outcomes recorded by our alumni across different industries and sectors, the Olusola Lanre Coaching Academy (OLCA) is positioned to certify HR Practitioners as a Life Coaches, equipping them with the necessary skills to be Change Agents, by transforming their people and thereby positioning their respective organisations for peak performance with its LIFE COACHING CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.

Coaching as a development tool for employees is now being accepted globally. In their Project Oxygen, Google discovered that their employees ranked coaching on top of the most important competencies they want their managers to have. Emotional intelligence, their involvement and personal relationships with their team, rather than their technical expertise, were their most appreciated strengths.
Nestlé is moving forward with coaching in a big way. As Séverine Jourdain, the Head of Coaching at Nestlé, put it: “Our ambition is to fully integrate coaching into our company mindset… and make coaching…the model of our future leadership style.”
Using coaching does not mean that managers should no longer direct and supervise their teams, but rather that their management style becomes more adapted to a given situation and responds better to the needs of their team members.
“There are managers who coach and managers who don’t. Leaders in the latter category are not necessarily bad managers, but they are neglecting an effective tool to develop talent.” Joseph R. Weintraub and James M. Hunt
